Taliban Online? (AOL at its best!)
AOL- Friend or Foe? ( Your opinion?)The continuing struggle with the hypocricy of the so called professionals at the AOL CAT Team continues! This latest is in reference to AOL's censoring of JCM's profile link to his CIS website... and in doing so, showing just how biased their views are for anyone who does not agree with the norm.

JesusClickedMe (5:02:59 PM): Dear Taliban Online,

I'm starting to get annoyed with your asinine bullshit.  I was cited for this violation before, asked for a reason and received no response.  Once again I give you 48 hours to give me a reason for this violation or I put the link in question back into the profile.  We can keep playing this silly game until you finally get a clue or I get tired of spending my money on your less than stellar ISP.

Note: Geez! When will these idiots get all their CAT Team on the same rules page? SHEESH!

Additionally, read the experiences of Marty with AOL in the article "AO-India" at the left menu link. This will clarify the cause of MANY of our problems with AOL today!

Rants: AOL is at it AGAIN!
AOL- Friend or Foe? ( Your opinion?)Greetings! You at AOL seem to have a REAL problem there! You REALLY should get all your CAT team members to follow the SAME guidelines. It's getting rather old having our chatroom delisted by one member, only to be re-evaluated and re-allowed by another, then just to be de-listed again.

Please refer to YOUR OWN guidelines, and quit all the messing with our room, please? This is getting ridiculous! It seems that AOL has NO religious tolerance, and while the christian users can express their opinions, we are not allowed to express ours, in spite of the fact that we FOLLOW AOL'S GUIDELINES about addressing a SUBJECT rather than an INDIVIDUAL or GROUP! By your own rules, you so valiantly admit that content is different in certain areas, and we are not being disrespectful, yet you seem to ONLY back the christian element.

I would truly like to address this issue with a supervisor, and have this mess cleared up once and for all, since the reoccurrences seem to be getting more and more frequent.

AOL applies the same standards to its own and its partners' content that it applies to member content. Remember that community standards vary from community to community. Some chat rooms may use stronger language than others. Obviously, some online areas may deal with more adult-oriented topics, such as sexual dysfunction, rape, or infidelity, and we offer our members Parental Controls so that you may ensure that kids who use your account can't see that mature content (see Getting Help: Online Resources). In most places on AOL, vulgar language or sexually explicit conduct are no more appropriate online than they would be at Thanksgiving dinner. So while the guidelines may vary a bit depending on the online area you're in, in general, these guidelines apply:

Dear Member,

America Online fosters a community that allows expression of many diverse and sometimes controversial beliefs. In doing so, it is necessary that America Online define terms that may be considered harassment in the specific targeting of another member or group expressly to cause the other member/s distress, embarrassment, or other discomfort.

While we understand that another member's views may differ from your own, we must allow freedom of speech as long as there is no intent to harm. We offer the ability for people with specific religious or political beliefs to quote writings and doctrine as long as it is done without specifically harassing or intimidating other members.

If you have any comments or questions please visit Keyword: TOSQuestions.

Regards,

Renee

AOL Reconsiders It's Stance? ABOUT TIME!
AOL- Friend or Foe? ( Your opinion?)The following are letters submitted to AOL by myself and JCM- (aka:Mike). I'm rather pleased with the fact that AOL has seen the err in their hasty decision and reinstated the room they had previously banned. .......... Admin

Hello, my name is Mike. About a year and a half ago myself and an online friend create a chat room in the "members life" section titled ChristianityIsStupid. Since that time I have met many wonderful people, Christians included, and have formed many online relationships with these people. Recently this room was closed and I was informed that the room name was no longer allowed to be created in the public section due to the fact that it was offensive to somebody. I'm sure the room name IS offensive to some people but they have the choice to either enter the room or to ignore it and move on just as I have that same choice. The room was created for like-minded individuals to converse and enjoy each others ideas about a wide range of topics.

Note: This is a small victory on our part, yet it IS in fact a step in the right direction in exposing Christians for the prejudices they so willfully and openly show under the guise of doing "gods will".
